What counts as an emergency

Electrical faults we deal with

If your electrical installation presents a risk or significant disruption, call us. We'll assess the situation and get to you as quickly as we can.

Tripping consumer unit

Repeatedly tripping circuit breakers or RCDs are a sign of a fault somewhere in the circuit. We find the cause — not just reset the breaker.

Total power loss

If you've lost power to all or part of your property and it's not a supply issue, there's likely a fault in your installation that needs investigating.

Burning smells or sparks

A burning smell from a socket or sparking when plugging in are serious warning signs. Switch off at the consumer unit and call us immediately.

Dead sockets or circuits

A circuit that's stopped working could indicate a loose connection, failed component or more serious fault within the installation.

Lighting failure

Lights failing across multiple rooms can indicate a wiring fault or a problem with the circuit at the consumer unit.

Unexplained electrical faults

Flickering lights, warm sockets, unexplained breaker trips — if something doesn't seem right with your electrics, don't ignore it.

Safety first

What to do in an electrical emergency

Before calling an electrician, there are a few immediate steps that can make the situation safer for everyone in the property.

  1. 1

Switch off at the consumer unit

If it's safe to do so, turn off the main switch at the fuse board to cut power to the affected circuits.

  2. 2

    Don't touch exposed wiring

If you can see exposed or damaged wiring, keep everyone away from the area and do not attempt to touch it.

  3. 3

Ventilate if there's a burning smell

Open windows and doors but do not try to locate the source yourself. Leave the building if you're concerned.

  4. 4

    Call us

Call 07404 686888 and describe what's happening — we'll advise you and get to you as quickly as possible.

Don't do this
  • Don't attempt to repair wiring yourself — incorrect work can cause fires or electrocution.
  • Don't keep resetting a tripping breaker — repeated trips mean there's an underlying fault that needs diagnosing.
  • Don't use a socket or switch that's warm, discoloured or sparking.
  • Don't ignore a burning smell from behind a wall or from your consumer unit.
  • Don't use an extension lead as a permanent fix for a dead socket — it's a temporary measure, not a solution.

For gas leaks, structural fires or immediate risk to life: call 999 first. Electrical emergencies that involve fire or serious risk should be reported to the fire service before calling an electrician.

FAQs

Emergency electrician questions

What people ask before calling.

What counts as an electrical emergency?
Any electrical fault that poses an immediate safety risk — burning smells, sparking sockets, complete power loss, or repeatedly tripping circuits — should be treated as urgent. If you're in any doubt, call us and describe the situation.
How quickly can you attend?
For urgent calls received before 3pm on weekdays, we'll do our best to attend the same day. Response time depends on existing bookings and location. Call us directly on 07404 686888 and we'll tell you honestly what we can manage.
Do you charge more for emergency call-outs?
We'll give you an honest assessment and a clear price before starting any work. We don't charge inflated emergency rates — just fair pricing for the job that needs doing.
What should I do while I wait for an electrician?
Switch off the affected circuit or the main switch at the consumer unit if it's safe to do so. Don't use any outlets or switches near the fault. If there's a burning smell or visible damage, keep everyone away from the area.
Do you cover weekends or out-of-hours?
Our current operating hours are Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm. We don't currently offer weekend or out-of-hours cover. For genuine emergencies outside these hours involving risk to life, please contact the emergency services.
